Check the "ln" command in linux, it could be of interest. It can be used for files as well as for folders/directories.

You can move from one place to another place (like from USB Stick to HDD or vice-versa)... this is generally what is used.

But 2 Gb is a lot ! Or you talk about 2 Mb...
