I would like to add a reset button to a dm900 similar to the reset button of a personal computer. It should just restart the box directly. You will probably tell me "Why, there is already a on/off switch?" and I will tell you, that I would like to reset the box without shutting the power off. Why? Because I have an SSD inside. As you might know, the SSD needs power to reorganize the written blocks internally, to avoid that one block is written too many times, because there is a life limit of about 1000 writes per block. The controller chip inside the SSD does this automatically. But if you switch off the power it can lead to problems. I have now lost two SSDs in the last 2 years. It happened usually shortly after a freeze of the player software gstreamer in the middle of a movie. I tried to connect by samba intranet and kill the process but no connection was possible. Means even the Linux on the box was probably frozen or the memory was so full that nothing was going anmore. I have the suspicion that maybe my switching off the power was the problem. Or that the gstreamer previously repeatedly wrote to the same block which would explain why the directory was broken after the restart. In any case, I would like to try and reset the box with a hardware button from now on, to see whether this fixes the SSD loss. Two losses are now more than enough for me. So the question to the hardware savvy people: Do you know whether there is either a reset pin (similar to a PC motherboard) or just which capacitor or data line I need to solder the wire to. I have ample experience with hardware with PCs. In a PC I would expect it to be found on the ECC chip but I haven't found a schematic of the dm900 up to now. Any info would be very appreciated.
