Amazon linked with Globalstar buyout

Amazon became the latest company placed in the frame to buy Apple-backed Globalstar, with Financial Times reporting negotiations were underway on a deal for the satellite communications player.

The newspaper stated the companies held lengthy talks, though cautioned the discussions could shift direction or collapse completely without a deal being reached.

Should an agreement materialise, the acquisition of Globalstar would bolster Amazon’s Leo satellite communications proposition and allow it to better compete with SpaceX’s Starlink business.

The company has 200 satellites in orbit and Amazon revealed last month it has another 200 “stacked and ready to launch”.

It is currently working to deployment timelines set by the US Federal Communications Commission.

Speculation
Rumours of Globalstar’s potential sale have been swirling the media for months, though SpaceX is the most regularly-cited potential suitor.

In October 2025, Bloomberg reported Globalstar was exploring a potential sale, with SpaceX named by the publication as showing an interest, among other unidentified parties.

TMF Associates president Tim Farrar last month speculated the sales process was reaching a conclusion, with a fee “close” to the asking price of $10 billion likely.
