light fixed ethernet but not start unit Dreambox 800
Ethernet but fixed front light off, on one occasion I was on the front but has been less than a second
I think it no has solution, but before throwing you wonder if there is any option

First thing to know if it's related to some voltage is to measure the main voltages.

More info, see here..

Re: Light Fixed Ethernet (Nothing on LCD) - 09/11/15 10:25 PM

You use the red probe on the ground, it should be the black probe, and with the red probe you do the measurements.

Also it is easier to put the black probe in one of the screw holes, or to the chassis, those are also grounds.

But most important, you seems to use the wrong mode, now you have it on AC voltage.
If you want to measure the voltage, you need to set it on DC mode.
If you want to measure the Ohm values, you need to set it on the Ohm measurements mode.
If you want to measure a diode, you need to set it on the Diode measurements mode.

Dc measurements you do with the 12v dc adapter connected to the motherboard because otherwise you will have no dc voltage measurements.

Ohm, or diode measurements you must do without the power supply is connected to the motherboard.

Ok! measurement result

U20....3,83
U7......2,63
U22,U24,U25...1,27
U6......0,52

Problem pin5 and U6?

Re: Light Fixed Ethernet (Nothing on LCD) - 09/11/15 11:30 PM

Than it seems that you have a 5v failure, check the 0 ohm resistor on the U6 side, see if you have there the 5v.

If so, replace the 0 ohm resistor.

http://jb8a8f8.com/support/index.php?attachments/fault_finder_pinout_p5-jpg.22/

If you have another type motherboard, without this U6 Dc to Dc ic, give me a image of the motherboard, both sides.

But on the other hands, it seems to me unlikely because then you must also have issues with other sections that depends on the 5v.

For a overview, see this 5v schematic.

Re: Light Fixed Ethernet (Nothing on LCD) - 09/11/15 11:58 PM

I've added more related information in the previous post, as the link to the 5v schematic.

Your motherboard is just a regular board, so all the dm800hd schematics should be usable.

I have some doubts about the cap you have used, it has nothing to do with your issue but it may give scart problems.
Better is to use a cap with a lower loading voltage than the 50v you now use.
Same value as the others.

Thank you very much Jonny,
I got the dreambox with the cap, and had thought about putting another cap
I have seen the schematic, but I'm a newbie and do not know that I have to measure or check, you can detail me clearer.blush

Re: Light Fixed Ethernet (Nothing on LCD) - 09/12/15 05:41 AM

Tha last picture is the u6 3.3v output side, and that's correct.
On the previous picture, http://oi57.tinypic.com/igc13b.jpg
you can see the 0 ohm resistor R109, the black small resistor with zero mark on it.
This must give on both sides 5v dc.

What is a 0 ohm resistor?
0 ohm resistors are just as fuses, they use them as a bridge and mostly on low voltage outputs.
Anyways, it must give the same value on both sides same as a fuse.

Re: Light Fixed Ethernet (Nothing on LCD) - 09/13/15 06:10 AM

Thanks again. I measured the 0 ohm resistor on both sides and still gives me 0.53v values ...

I have to change the 0 ohm resistor?

Re: Light Fixed Ethernet (Nothing on LCD) - 09/13/15 07:56 AM

Wait until you have measured it also on these places.
Black is ground spot, other two are the red pen places.
Set your multimeter on vdc mode.
Measure the two red spots.

See image,
http://postimg.org/image/rsez38plz/

Because you had said in your previous measurements that you only missing the 5v.

And this is strange, because with a u6 5v failure you should also not have the 1.3v pin 1 and the 3.3v from the U20 voltage.

Re: Light Fixed Ethernet (Nothing on LCD) - 09/13/15 03:39 PM

Hello Johnny, the two points marked in red the value is 0.5

Re: Light Fixed Ethernet (Nothing on LCD) - 09/13/15 09:15 PM

In that case, assuming you measure it correctly, and based on your information it should be a U6 5v side failure.
This can happen when...

One heavy load on the 5v circuit due a defective part on this circuit.
Or a defective U6 chip.

But could also be caused by a defective part on the U6 section, the 5v side.

The schematic of the u6 you can see by this picture,
http://jb8a8f8.com/support/index.php?attachments/u6-2012-jpg.28/

I advice to check all connection on the 5v side, se if there is no interruption.

Also, check the two (green) F1 and F2 fuses, check if they have the 5v, and on both sides.

Another thing you can do is to remove the R109 0 ohm resistor and see if you get the 5v back on the output from the U6 5v side.
If so, then you have a issue with another part what is connected to this 5v circuit.
But to be sure, remove the sim card if you do this.

But still, it's illogical if you have the pin 1 / 1.2v and pin 4 / 3.3v, while you don't have the 5v.
Normally, these two voltages are also not present by a 5v defect.
This makes the measurements doubtful.

Re: Light Fixed Ethernet (Nothing on LCD) - 09/14/15 01:00 AM

Okay, so if I understand correctly, these measurements are from another 800hd receiver, and do provide all voltages.
And it has a network problem.

And, the previous measurements, with a missing 5v measurement is another motherboard.
Visual problems such as what this receiver still does, is not mentioned yet.

Is this correct?

*Box with network problem, see here for any solution.
http://jb8a8f8.com/support/index.php?threads/network-issues.25/

*The box with 5v problem, if it is really true that you miss only the 5v from the U6..
See the previous message, the removal of the 5v 0 ohm resistor.

Re: Light Fixed Ethernet (Nothing on LCD) - 09/14/15 04:13 AM

I have two motherboards, the first is the problem I'm wondering, fixed lights on ethernet, and nothing else works. Tensions, I checked, I did wrong, was not 0.5V , I saw confundi since 05.2 as I show in the picture. This motherboard comes him well all tensions.

The other motherboard, it was only to check the tension and I realized my mistake (this also have to repair) no lights in the ethernet and not connected to internet, so yes, starts and runs everything else

The first motherboard that a can further check? having all the correct voltages
Thank you

Re: Light Fixed Ethernet (Nothing on LCD) - 09/14/15 04:55 AM

Okay, so you have on the motherboard all the main voltages, further no activity, only the two network leds are on.

What you can do is to check the C115 cap voltage for 3.3v.
This is the fourth cap from the four big caps, near the jtag connector (14 pins).
Is this present, than you can try to replace these cap.
Because, if this cap is bad, than you may get this symptom.

Further you can try to see if there is any activity by using a terminal program as Hyperterminal or Putty.
Use a 0 modem rs232 cable and connect it to the service port.
Use the terminal settings,

Bits per second = 115200
Data bits = 8
Parity = None
Stop bits = 1
Flow control = Xon / Xoff

If you have replaced this cap, or often better all the four big caps and you have no results, or any output data from the serial port.

Than it could be a u22 issue (if it's the seven pins version) otherwise it is most likely a cpu, or memory issue.

Re: Light Fixed Ethernet (Nothing on LCD) - 09/15/15 06:55 AM

Sorry for the late response, but a little busy today with the repairs

The terminal output looks to me fine, and what the network leds concerns,

Do you have this issue?
Network cable connected.. the two lan leds light up, then both off.

Like this..

Re: Light Fixed Ethernet (Nothing on LCD) - 09/15/15 08:09 PM

Do not worry, we'll all busy wink

About DreamBox fixed in ethernet lights, as usual, it is not connected by putty, unresponsive. Tensions are all correct. Even the cap appears c115 me 3.3v voltage
There's some checking .... Is there a solution?

On the other dreambox, effectively lights on and off, I will check voltages

ThanksJohnny_B

Re: Light Fixed Ethernet (Nothing on LCD) - 09/16/15 02:48 AM

The box which is completely dead, only the lan LEDs.

Check the ohm values of the P5, not the voltages, so do not connect the psu.
On this picture you see three rows of ohm values of three motherboards.
Check whether one or more has a different value.
All values has been measured between the ground and the measure point.

Re: Light Fixed Ethernet (Nothing on LCD) - 09/16/15 05:32 AM

Pin 4 issue?, no this I've seen more often while the receiver worked just fine.

The rest looks to me fine.

I think, replace the four big caps then there is a reasonable chance that the box again works.

Re: Light Fixed Ethernet (Nothing on LCD) - 09/16/15 01:55 PM

then the dreambox with fixed lights in ethernet, you might be solved by changing the large caps ?, which are or which type you recommend replacing... 4700uf10v? Replacing four caps?

Re: Light Fixed Ethernet (Nothing on LCD) - 09/16/15 10:54 PM

The one who does nothing, only the lan leds are on.
And with or without a network cable connected.

Hi Johnny, I do not understand well. (Google translater)
I have to change the 4 caps of the dreambox with fixed lights in ethernet?
My question is the 4 caps are 4700uf10v? You have any photo to see it clearly?
Posted by: Johnny_B

Re: Light Fixed Ethernet (Nothing on LCD) - 09/17/15 01:23 AM

It concerns the receiver with only two LEDs on, no further activity.

And it concerns the 4 4700uf 10v caps that needs to be replaced.

ok in the dreambox with lights, still without activity I will change the caps

I fixed last night a friend DM800HD box, replacing the 4 CAPS, the box was even not turning on... ! And now it works as new with the new 4 x 4700uF caps.

I confirm it's a very good way to fix most of the dead DM800HD.

Re: Light Fixed Ethernet (Nothing on LCD) - 10/15/15 09:08 AM

Hmm okay, so there is nothing changed.
You still have a death box, with only the two network leds on.

Based that you have replaced the four big caps.
That you have all the main voltage on the P5 pins.
http://jb8a8f8.com/support/index.php?attachments/dm800hd-fault-finder-pinout-2013-jpg.21/

The main ohm values on the P5 pins are also fine.
http://jb8a8f8.com/support/index.php?attachments/dm800hd-fault-finder-pinout-ohms-2013-jpg.23/

So there are no measurable things that tells that there is something wrong.

Than I'm afraid it would probably a cpu problem.

Re: Light Fixed Ethernet (Nothing on LCD) - 10/16/15 04:20 AM

Yeah well sometimes it's wiser to stop with the repair before you spend too much money on it.

But the only thing that it maybe could be.
Is the removal of the U18 - TL7702 ic.
The motherboard can work without it, and can give this issue.

However it's a small chance.
