VU+ Solo2 Original motherboard (upgrade not necessary and no upgrade possible to Japhar Chip that is not designed for Original boxes).

VU+ Solo2 Lorinsun and Dragonworth as well as Sunray, we have to see case by case, as the FPGA is also relevant for the security of the box and use of original images.

hi Toysoft,

I try since 2 years to get my Solo working without success. Solo v3a works so far, without tuner. Tuner gets recognized but can not find any channals.

My Question now: will the new Japhar chip may work in replacement of the old security chip.

I put a photo of my brushed chip postion of the mobo, hope You can open it from the Datei Manager.

greetings

Probably it will be the best to send to Johnny, so he can check and replace the chip that is SMD (difficult to replace), as well as check that all connections are correct compared to our chip.

What is the exact clone/Model you have ? Do you have anything written or sticker that could give a clue about the clone manufacturer ? What is the MAC address of the box ?

For now, I guess for 90% that the japhar vu J chip will work on your board.
If you want to know it for sure, then I need a better picture, one picture of which I can see the connections to the chip clearly.

hi Johnny.

it my best to get better Pictur of the chip, see attachments:

Further I could see now, that the cristal named D8.2L1 insted of D8.211.

Re: FAQ : VU J chip from Japhar Team, upgrade your box - 12/29/17 02:04 PM

It looks like that definitely you can replace the chip on the VU+ Solo motherboard by the VU J chip, but it's not an easy job to remove the old one and replace it by the Japhar J chip. Are you able to do it ? Or do you need to send the box to Johnny that is in Netherlands to do it (there will be the shipping costs to send and receive back) ?

Re: FAQ : VU J chip from Japhar Team, upgrade your box - 12/29/17 05:43 PM

Yeah well, I have a good feeling that the chip will work on these board.
Best is to remove the chip and add some wires to the Scl/Sda/Vcc/Gnd places and add a connector to it.
But (of course) I'm whiling to do that.

Re: FAQ : VU J chip from Japhar Team, upgrade your box - 12/31/17 06:54 PM

You need to check the print tracks to the chip legs to know the connection because some tracks are connected from the other side, to under the chip.
In any case, the most important are the Scl/Sda/Vcc/Gnd connections and also the Vcc track must be 3.3v, not 5v.
On your chip must the Sda/Scl have the same chip pins connection as the solo/duo v3 syncmos chips, otherwise it may not work with a Vu J chip because it may indicate that the chip is different programmed than the solo/duo syncmos chips.
Also you need to find a better place to add wires/socket to it because these syncmos chips are different connected than the vu J chip.

For example the Syncmos Solo sda-scl picture which is from a solo v3,
Other picture is from a duo chip v3, in any case both do the same and have the same chip pins connections, only the connector pins P5/Rx/Tx are different to the connector, but when you use the sequence Rx/Tx/Vcc/SDA/SCL/Ground then it is suitable for the Vu J Chip module version.
However the sequence Rx/Tx may differ, the Vu J chip module board has jumper wires for it to change it.
But, in most cases you don't need them, only the Sda/Scl/Vcc and ground are sufficient to work with this board.

In any case, If you want to use the Vu J chip, then you must have the module version and remove the syncmos chip from the motherboard.
You also need to find a way to make a connector version from it.
If it's works on this type box, I can not say, never had this type box and so not tested with this chip.

Re: FAQ : VU J chip from Japhar Team, upgrade your box - 01/01/18 03:33 PM

Unfortunately, the images are not clear enough to see the connections.
But check these pins, whether they give an ohm value between the ground, and the measuring point.

If so, it has a good chance that the vu J chip can work on it.
But, on these pins you can not solder wires, they are far too small.
You will have to find another place with some ohm measurements of where these pins go.

Of course for me no problem but....
Sending/resending/chip cost does not cover the value of the box, it may even become more expensive than buying a new box.

Cloud-ibox4 by Johnny

I've bought a defective cloud-ibox4 which has the famous red led issue and it was simply to repair by replacing the nand flash chip, but later more about this.

In any case now it works I had the opportunity to see if I could modify it to work with the VuJ chip, and thus removed the old security chip from the print side, added two wires on the Scl/Sda circuits and build a socket for it to easily plugin the VuJ board.

Later I will make a good instructions drawing for it, but for now I can tell that this box perfectly works on the VuJ chip. Uploaded the openpli original duo file, did some online upgrades, tested the card readers etc, and it still works fine. In any case, I have here some pictures from it, have fun..

Re: FAQ : VU J chip from Japhar Team, upgrade your box - 02/11/18 02:39 AM

In any case, the VuJ chip will work on these motherboard, I have the same board tested with it.
Further to determine if you have a security chip issue, or a bricked nand flash chip can be seen when you connect the box to the serial port, and using a terminal program as Putty, or Hyperterminal.
The output from it should give the answer.

When you get no output, then you should use the jtag method to see if you can bring back the nand flash chip back to life.

If your solo2 has no issues, then it has no sense to modify it to the VuJ chip.

Re: FAQ : VU J chip from Japhar Team, upgrade your box - 02/13/18 03:49 AM

Seems to me not related to the security chip, but it could be related due the nand flash chip.
Maybe to many bad blocks.

Hi, I am also interested for a friend - he actually purchased the Japhar chip (order 501) . Will he be able to install new images with latest drivers or he still needs to use Lorinsun v4 drivers ?

Re: FAQ : VU J chip from Japhar Team, upgrade your box - 02/13/18 12:33 PM

The upgrade we do with VU J allows to use original images on VU+ Solo / Duo / Uno and all the clones for these models. About the Solo2 you need also to get the FPGA security improved but at the minimum you will be able to use V4 images (with V4 drivers).

Can he update FPGA using the tool vuplus released in the past ?
Or he will get an error as following.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SWy5eUhcsEQ

Would be good if you continue researching a solution for this,
otherwise the point of updating the chip is not interesting.

One who destroys a Lorinsun nowadays can buy an original much cheaper.

Re: FAQ : VU J chip from Japhar Team, upgrade your box - 02/14/18 02:13 AM

This Video from Youtube is from an Original VU+ Solo2 Box.

The update seems to come from the drivers themself, a guy posted this on the video comments.

"Same problem, so u have to flash it with BH 2.09"

FYI, our Security solution with VU J Board or chip, has nothing to do with the Original box. The original box needs to be fixed by the software VU+ Released or by VU+ themself. Our chip in no way can be installed on an original VU+ Solo2 (VU J board is for Clones only).

For VU+ Solo2 Clones, all methods are known to fix the kill/bomb. The Flash chip needs to be replaced and the VU+ Security chip needs to be at the latest version (V4 or be our VU J Chip) and the FPGA properly updated. Then you can use the V4 images for Solo2 Clones.

Re: FAQ : VU J chip from Japhar Team, upgrade your box - 02/14/18 04:04 AM

I need to clarify some things about this project. I know what is possible and what is not possible with lorinsun clones updated to v4. The drivers released for v4 are actually reversed engineered by removing the actual checks for the original Actel chip and replaced those with something basic compatible with X card and Actel which was first hacked/cloned.
This is not easy I understand, but if you have proper tools to clone an updated vusolo2 actel chip - you only need to extract the seed key , in theory you should be able to upgrade the clones Actel chips the same as vuplus is doing with originals.
I have been helping out some friends who bought this box since v1. The video was an example, I would expect similar result if one tries to update the FPGA to latest provided by vuplus and thus give HW error. I have not tried this yet.
The update occurs by fpga_directc.ko which is found in extra folder.

Another tidbit:
Code:
elif info == "solo2":
		fwlist= [
			 ("fpga", _("FPGA"))
			,("fp", _("Front Processor"))
			]
		fwdata= {
			 "fpga" : ["http://archive.vuplus.com/download/fpga", "fpga.files", "/dev/fpga_dp;/dev/misc/dp;"]
			,"fp"   : ["http://archive.vuplus.com/download/fp", "fp.files", "/dev/bcm_mu;"]
			}

The fpga update files are located on vuplus server. Most probably the fpga_directc.ko is creating the interface to update the Actel.

Why not try to clone an Actel from Sunray or Meelo - this being the latest knockoff.

Thanks for your answers

Hello, here I am recovering a Vu + solo pro from a friend, he bought it on the website of Ali Express.It is planted at startup with the gear that turns on the top left of the screen.

I would like to flash it, but I do not know what image openpli put because I think it's a clone.

I opened it, I do not see any sim.

I do not know which versione is this the V1 - V2 or V3

I would like with the opinion of specialists to know what I can do with and if you have a link or backup, I would be interested.

Thank you in advance to all

Re: FAQ : VU J chip from Japhar Team, upgrade your box - 04/21/18 07:15 PM

As you can see your box looks like a Cloud-ibox4, see below,

http://www.ourdreambox.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=15303#Post15303

Without the upgrade of the security chip, you will have to use old images v2 from Ferrari, all the ones labelled Solo v2 Ferrari will be ok.

http://www.ourdreambox.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=postlist&Board=40&page=1

If you want to use more recent images, you will have to go thru the Chip upgrade, to the VU J board (http://www.japhar.com/japhar/). And you will be able to install any of the original images from this link, http://www.ourdreambox.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=postlist&Board=124&page=1

Seems to be this,

http://www.ourdreambox.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=6131

So it's VU+ Solo², this means that we have half solution, only the security chip ("X Card"), but probably yours is already "at the level", then next part necessary is the FPGA, that we don't have.

The Lonrison Solo2 image should work in your box, as your chip XCard is from that manufacturer.

Works the chip in a solo2 lonrison v1 ?

Re: FAQ : VU J chip from Japhar Team, upgrade your box - 10/28/22 11:18 AM

For a full "compatibility" to the original box you would need this chip and the FPGA chip.

This chip is a perfect replacement for the security chip, for this point I can confirm it. If your box was killed, it will need the replacement of the Flash chip as well. If it's alive and working, then the security chip is 1:1 to the Lonrisun, but the FPGA is still necessary to have a 1:1 to Original box.
