Hi there everyone,

Now that my sat carriers ending its sd channels in favour of hd encrypted channels i have a question?

Is there a life for my DM8k sat boxes?
Or do i very sson own 3 expensive bricks?
Could they be used as ip boxes with the new sim?
Ive been away for a long time since its all been working ok.
So i don't understand exactley how the new sim works.
I would very much appreciate if somone could explain whats the gain with this chip?
I don't want to use original carrier boxes if possible.

Thank You al in advance // p

Hopefully as you write, since already 3 years most of the services such as the ones you talk about that are less and less, are going thru IPTV streams, that is fully compatible with DM8000HD boxes and Japhar Images.

The Plus that Japhar brings with it's own images is the IPTV compatibility and support, that adds to the DM8000HD power having Sat, Cable and Terrestrial, also the IPTV.

It still has a big future as all the Linux boxes, as IPTV was never intended and developped for it in past, but due to it's capacity it is able to easily handle IPTV services.

Yes, so the upgrade to new sim/software/images brings you also IPTV in addition to all other functionnalities. Just the Japhar IPTV FTA List is more than 1300 channels... and there is thousands more to be added/found worldwide. Your receiption is no more limited to the satellites covering your region (Europe), but you can also receive IPTV channels from all over the world, even Australia or USA/Canada, South America etc...

The last "official OpenPLi" DM box supported is the DM8000HD, as it has a lot of FLASH and RAM, and is still at the edge today of DM boxes as HD is what is needed (H265 and 4K are like 3D, of not big use at least before 2022).

I personally have 6 DM8000HD, all upgraded to the latest software and I enjoy all what I want having added the extra IPTV services as if nothing changed on the past years.

Thanks Admin for quick answer!

So i can run iptv, thats great news.
But that arrise a few more questions...

1. is this only links to free streams avalible on the net?
2. since Dm8K lacks ci+ i would think that subscription with iptv carries, in my case, fiber to my house would be impossible?

Thanks again // p

As you will perfectly understand we don't talk about CS here, as it would jeopardize the forum, but at what we seen what happened with CS exists on IPTV as well. I think this answers plenty of questions in your side.

Personally the State TV (Swiss, French, Italian) and Terrestrial plus the FTA IPTV, gives far enough to me to watch. Naturally you can need more, and horizons with IPTV are so wide. You can do exactly the same you done with Sat/Terr with IPTV, as functionnalities (recording). You cannot subscribe to official Pay-TV services as they lock their reception to their own hardware, but all other offers you can use as well as the thousands of IPTV FTA channels worldwide.

The point here is that you have a box with ALL inside, Sat, Terrestrial, cable and IPTV... so the widest solution available in TV reception.

Thanks again for the clarification Admin!

And sorry if i broke any rules, it was'nt my intention.
I deleted that part, i thought that inhouse cs was ok?

Anyway, i might hold on to my dm's then.

Best regards & a happy new year !!

You didn't broke any rules (and here we are not hard rules people), it's just not a hard rule but more a soft rule due to "bon sens".

We prefer to not have such comments/discussions that other forums do extensively already (and much better for sure), this to protect the group/forum from any use of these arguments to shut up us.

The important is that you have now clear ideas about your hardware and it's capacity to be improved on next years just because the hardware is far enough powerful and hopefully software is supported by the Team that adds anything that can be handy for the community.

So keep your DM8000HD, these will work at least 5 more years, and software will continue to improve, hardware being already far enough at level of the needs (Ram, Flash, CPU, Codecs H264/MPEG4 that is mainly HD, MPEG2 that is SD, etc). Only the H265/HEVC and DVB-T2 could change the things, but even a DVB-T2 dongle can be added to it, until the H264 is used (and not H265, but new DVB-T2 includes H264 and H265 standards as not all channels will need H265 that is more due to very big streaming channels like 4K and high quality HD).
