You need to install it, and find with the opkg update, then the opkg grep the driver, knowing the PID:VID you have (148f:3070).

As explained on various posts on this Wifi driver section.

Remember that you need to have enough Flash space to do installations... serviceapp installs various things such as ffmpeg etc, and all this takes at least 10-15 Mb, the Flash has only 3-4 Mb available... so you will for sure have a lot of issue and errors if you try to install and don't have space available, like corrupted gstplayer most probably, as it will not finish these installs properly... etc.

Hi,

the first thing I do after a fresh install is usb memory expand, so I don't think that issue for wifi (and gstplayer) is due a poor memory.

Why do you want to install another ipk from another image ?

rt3070_2.1.1.0-_dm800se_2.6.18-7.4.ipk

This one is not related to the image, and is Kernel 2.6.18... the current image is Kernel 3.2, it's also very important to know that you need to install the drivers from the feeds and not ipks found on internet from other images, that will for sure fail your installation.

Concerning your "not working", you should dm520 ? And your box is dm800hdse, is this correct ? I don't understand why you post the dm520 and not the dm800se log, to find out errors. I will try to do an installation on a dm800se to check, but on the dm520 it was successful. Can you please specify exactly what doesn't work, and did you tried the lsmod and lsusb commands to find out if all was properly installed ?

Thank you,

Admin

There is a misunderstanding. The log was a QUOTE of YOUR post using DM520 and not my log. Clearly I did the same on my dm800se and the result is:

Code:
root@dm800se:~# opkg list | grep rt5572sta
kernel-module-rt5572sta - 2.6.1.3-r0 - Ralink 2870/3070/8070/3370/3572/5370/5372/5572 v2.6.1.3
kernel-module-rt5572sta-3.2-dm800se - 2.6.1.3-r0 - rt5572sta kernel module
kernel-module-rt5572sta-dbg - 2.6.1.3-r0 - Ralink 2870/3070/8070/3370/3572/5370/5372/5572 v2.6.1.3 - Debugging files
kernel-module-rt5572sta-dev - 2.6.1.3-r0 - Ralink 2870/3070/8070/3370/3572/5370/5372/5572 v2.6.1.3 - Development files

root@dm800se:~# opkg list-installed | grep rt5572sta
kernel-module-rt5572sta-3.2-dm800se - 2.6.1.3-r0

This means that kernel-module-rt5572sta-3.2-dm800se - 2.6.1.3-r0 was installed correctly (from feeds) but the Ralink 148f:3070 for me not working (this means that in the setup/net section I can only choose Ethernet, WiFi is not available).

So the drivers of rt5572 are installed but not working for Ralink 148f:3070

As you can see the driver is loaded,

rt5572sta 891400 0

But the "0" means that there is no application communicating with it. We will look into it.

Ok, I got my RT3070 ID 148f:3070 load to dm800se:

The problem is that it cannot connect by WPA/WPA2, it runs only with no encrypted wifi.

I tried with these:

https://forums.openpli.org/topic/19046-dm800-wifi-lan-strange-behaviour/#entry208723

and

https://forums.openpli.org/topic/60364-zgemma-h9-wifi-encryption/

but not helped.

I also read a old post of @gdk1 :

What is the name of your Wifi WPA2 network ? As at what I remember, it needs to use only small caps, and not big letters to be compliant and so compatible.

Eg : "Wireless" will be not compatible, but "wireless" will work.

I have small caps SSID, not working.
It works only with WEP but use wep (in)security its a bad idea.

Waiting for someone which find the solution smile

Can you do the checked as explained on this post ?

https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=161923

And let us know if there is something you find out ?

TS

-----------------

Are you sure the PSK was typed properly?
Have you set the WIFI country?
Have a look at wpa_supplicant.conf

sudo nano /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf

It should look something like this:

ctrl_interface=DIR=/var/run/wpa_supplicant GROUP=netdev
update_config=1
country=US

network={
ssid="your ssid here"
psk="your psk here"
key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
}

Remove any duplicated entries (failed attempts).
Note you can connect both wired and WIFI at the same time and even use them concurrently.

Here is my wpa_supplicant.conf file.

ctrl_interface=DIR=/var/run/wpa_supplicant GROUP=netdev
update_config=1
country=US

network={
ssid="jesljy"
psk="xxxxxxxxxxx"
key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
}

network={
ssid="iptime"
key_mgmt=NONE
}

The second entry is the one for the open wifi AP that I was able to connect to. That was added automatically, I guess, when I connected.

There are/were no duplicated entries for any of the failed attempts to log into the router. I'm not sure, of course, but could that be significant? Not only am I not connecting, but I'm not getting the OS to record the attempt?

Should the configuration file show WPA for both WPA and WPA2? The router uses WPA2.

The password for the router is alphanumeric, lower-case letters and numbers only. No special characters.

I'm using AES encryption. Should it be TKIP even if that's not optimal for security?

According to other posts in this forum, for WPA2 and AES you need this

network={
ssid="myssid"
psk="mypasskey"
proto=RSN
key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
pairwise=CCMP
auth_alg=OPEN
}

I'm using AES encryption. Should it be TKIP even if that's not optimal for security?

According to other posts in this forum, for WPA2 and AES you need this

network={
ssid="myssid"
psk="mypasskey"
proto=RSN
key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
pairwise=CCMP
auth_alg=OPEN
}

TKIP is the older standard. If using TKIP only then I believe pairwise=TKIP is needed.

My router is set to AES (CCMP) and it just works with the wpa_supplicant.conf which I posted in the 2nd post above.
My wpa_supplicant.conf is the default as generated by the GUI config tools for PSK and WIFI country.

Hi Toysoft,

thank you for reply, today I see your last post.

Anyway I solved by myself.

So, to make RT3070 ID 148f:3070 drivers load to dm800se (japhar feeds):

Code:
opkg update
opkg install enigma2-plugin-systemplugins-wirelesslan
opkg install kernel-module-rt2800usb-3.2-dm800se
opkg install firmware-rt2870

and to make WPA/WPA2 run:

Code:
opkg update
opkg install kernel-module-aes-generic-3.2-dm800se
opkg install kernel-module-arc4-3.2-dm800se

Case closed cool
